What hip dips actually are

Before any surgical conversation: the skeleton-and-fat science of a completely normal contour — so whatever you decide, you decide it informed.

The three ingredients

Bone geometry, draped in your fat pattern.

The hollow sits where the femur's greater trochanter meets your pelvic shape. Wider, higher hip crests create a longer span for a visible dip; some genetic fat patterns pad the zone and erase it, others leave the skeletal line on show. Lean, athletic bodies often show dips more — the padding that hides architecture is exactly what fitness removes.

  • Not a fitness verdict — elite athletes have them; strengthening gluteus medius builds muscle above and behind the hollow, never inside it.
  • Not a weight problem — visible on lean and fuller bodies alike, for different reasons.
  • Not something you caused — the geometry was set before your first workout.

The sentence this site is built on

Hip dips are normal anatomy, and choosing to leave yours alone is a respected outcome of assessment here. Surgery exists for informed adults with a genuine aesthetic preference — not for insecurities manufactured by filtered photos.

Why a surgery site says this

Want the honest read on YOUR contour?

Two photos, one sentence about your goal — and a reply that might be 'here's the plan' or 'you genuinely don't need this.'
